Victoria Rae Black was born in West Allis, moved to South Milwaukee where she went to middle school and high school. Then she settled in Bay View.
She worked as a waitress, first at Ouzo Café on Milwaukee Street and then at John Hawks Pub, where she also handled bartending duties.
Now, Black, 22, is well on her way to becoming a big name in the world of porn.
Victoria Rae Black is not her real name, but those who know her will easily recognize her. For years in Milwaukee she was one of the prettiest girls in the room. Great looking, tall and lithe with a 1,000-watt smile. Looking just the way she looks now.
But now she lives in L.A., the glamor and porn capital of the United States. Last week her parents were visiting, so they went to the Santa Monica pier and a bunch of family restaurants and other Southern California attractions. Victoria had to leave her parents alone a couple of times, once to shoot a Penthouse pictorial and again to shoot a sex scene for a movie by noted adult photographer Earl Miller.
This all started last summer when she went to Chicago to answer a casting call for Playboy. They shot her and put her in the magazine. Then someone named Calvin Ferguson saw her picture and called and offered her an adult role in a movie. The rest, as they say, is history.
I set up an interview with her and after a couple of false starts, we had a long and frank talk about her family, her boyfriends and girlfriends, and the life of a young porn star.
OnMilwaukee.com: What did you think about when you first got the offer to be in adult films?
Victoria Rae Black: Well, I thought long and hard about it. I thought about what my friends would think. I wondered if my family would disown me, even though they aren't like that. I was living with a girl named Kimberly, and I wanted to know if she'd be comfortable with me living in her house doing that kind of work.
OMC: What do you mean that kind of work? Did you think there was something wrong or shameful about it?
VRB: No. I had gotten an offer to do it when I was 19. I turned it down then because I wasn't ready. But I had been thinking about it ever since. If you love to do it, you should be able to do it as long as nobody gets hurt.
OMC: How does your family feel about it?
VRB: They are proud of me for everything I do. It may not be the normal thing for a young girl to do to the average eye. They know I will make the right decisions and not do anything to harm myself or anyone else.
OMC: What was it like the first time you had sex on camera?
VRB: It was for a video called "Brand New Faces." They wanted the girls to do their own hair and makeup, and I was very nervous because I suck at hair and makeup. But I got there and people were very nice. There was nothing wild or anything like that. It was very business-like. I had set myself up for the worst but it was a nice and clean environment. When we got to the content, the guy walked in. I never met the guy. We just started right in. He had a mohawk and all these tattoos, and I was scared that it would be rough. But it wasn't. He was really nice and relaxed.
OMC: When you have sex on camera is it fun or work?
VRB: Most of the time it's fun. I've done over 50 scenes now. Days when there's lots of waiting between shots it's draining. Of course, it's always work but it doesn't feel like work.
OMC: Do you have a boyfriend?
VRB: I do. He's a writer, and he's OK with everything. We have a pretty open relationship. We started seeing each other after he knew I was in the business. He likes to have fun, too, so it works out perfect.
OMC: Does he expect you to be the girl he sees on the screen?
VRB: No. Sometimes I come home and my body has been ravaged and sometimes it kind of hurts him a little if I don't want to mess around. He knows that in my personal life I'm a different girl. I like my sweatpants, a T-shirt and a hoodie.
OMC: How many times a day do you have sex?
VRB: Normally it's just once but it can last three or four hours to get a 30- or 40-minute scene. I count sex on the basis of when the guy (climaxes). Sometimes they make a mistake and (climax) too soon. So the guys have to take supplements like Viagra or other stuff so they can perform. Some of them are young, and it can't be good for their bodies. I only do one scene a day because I have such a fragile tiny body I couldn't handle more than that.
OMC: If you are doing a scene with a boy or a girl, do you warm up?
VRB: Not with a boy. There's foreplay there so that gets you going. With a girl we normally warm up together. We just go crazy together to warm up.
OMC: Did you date girls before you got into porn?
VRB: I dated a girl named Lauren for about six months in Milwaukee. Neither one of us had ever been with a woman before, so we explored it together.
OMC: When it looks like you are having an orgasm on camera, is it real?
VRB: I never actually (climaxed) with a guy normally. I do every time with a girl. But with a boy, the buildup is very real. I get right to the edge but then the guy (has an orgasm), and it's over. I never get to have my cake and eat it, too.
OMC: Do you have a favorite thing to do sexually, either on camera or off?
VRB: I love it when a guy talks dirty to me. I really love that. And of course I talk back to him. That's my favorite.
OMC: There are people who say the porn business is kind of sleazy and vicious. Any reaction?
VRB: I have seen both ends of the spectrum. Just like life there are people who don't have their stuff together and are off the wagon. I've met people who make you cringe when you talk to them. But most of the people are very nice and very professional.
OMC: What do you think of yourself doing this?
VRB: I'm proud of what I do. I'm having fun. I'm 22 and having fun. I'm not rich but I'm making good money. I want people to view me as a person, not as an object. I'm a very normal person. I don't just throw myself around.
OMC: When you are 40 these videos of you having sex will still be floating around the Internet. Any problems with that?
VRB: No. I'm going back to dental school to get my oral surgery dental degree. I'm going to either open my own dental office or work in one. If anyone finds my adult work and they have an issue with it, well, I wouldn't want to work with anyone who is not open minded and didn't understand that I did what I could because I had the body and the time. If they have a stick up their butt I don't want to work there. I've kept my private personal life and my public life separate.
OMC: How long do you plan on doing this?
VRB: I'll be done by the end of the year. A short run. I make decent money and I'm trying to save enough not to have to take out student loans. That's my plan and I'm pretty good at sticking to my plans in life.
