A judge and a defense attorney indicated Wednesday that a plea deal may be in the offing for a woman accused of having sex with a teenage boy while she was running a recreation league as a civilian employee of the Palm Springs Police Department.
Riverside County Superior Court Judge William S. Lebov granted defense attorney John Dolan's request for a pre-plea report on Alanna Reichle, 33, of Cathedral City.
"Since this matter is subject to a resolution, we'll go ahead with Mr. Dolan's request,'' Lebov said.
Prosecutor Jeffrey Campbell did not object, though indicated he had been ready to proceed with today's scheduled preliminary hearing, which would determine if enough evidence exists to warrant a trial.
A pre-plea report, due in this case on Oct. 7, gives a judge comprehensive knowledge of a defendant and how to consider the charges, Dolan said. He said he believes the case will be resolved without a trial.
"It's in the best interest of all the parties if we settle the case,'' he said.
Reichle pleaded not guilty July 21 to three counts of unlawful sex with a minor and one count of oral copulation with a person under 18.
Reichle, then director of the Western Coachella Valley Police Activities League, was arrested May 2 at her home and was released on bail, said Lt. Charles Robinson of the Cathedral City Police Department.
Police declined to say how she knew the alleged victim, but the criminal complaint alleges the relationship lasted from March 2010 to May 2011.
Reichle's position with the recreation league, came through the Palm Springs Police Department, where she was a civilian employee. Reichle no longer works for the department, said Palm Springs police spokeswoman Rhonda Long.
