Deputy charged in Explorer sex case

A deputy sheriff will be prosecuted on felony criminal charges that accuse him of having sex with an underage female Explorer scout, San Bernardino County district attorney officials announced Thursday.

Prosecutors filed two counts of oral copulation with a person under the age of 18 against Deputy Anthony James Benjamin, of Beaumont. The five-year sheriff's veteran is scheduled to be arraigned July 6 in Victorville where he was assigned.

The victim is 18, but was 17 when the incidents occurred, beginning last July, according to the charges.

Benjamin, 30, is among two deputies who have been arrested since April on charges of having sex with female Explorers, a scouting group sponsored by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Benjamin is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a departmental investigation, said sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Bachman. Deputy Nathan James Gastineau, of Redlands, was arrested April 22 for investigation of committing a lewd act with a 16-year-old girl.

Gastineau's employment with the department ended Wednesday, Bachman said. He is scheduled to be arraigned June 27 in San Bernardino Superior Court. A 10-year sheriff's veteran, Gastineau supervised the Highland station's Explorer program.

Last month, Sheriff Rod Hoops suspended the ride-along program for at least 60 days pending a review of the Explorer program, including the training, evaluation and selection of the deputies who supervise it.

Playboy magazine has performed a sex study every year since 1983, and the 2011 results have just arrived. The study, administered to 2,310 random American adults online, has some surprising finds. Here are six of my favorite statistics:

33 percent of men and 23 percent of women who have used a dating site have done so while already in a relationship

20 percent of men and 29 percent of women never receive oral sex from their partners

40 percent of adults between 18 and 24 years old have not yet had sex

24 percent of men and 13 percent of women who have had an STD did not inform their partner(s) after being diagnosed

73 percent of women but only 43 percent of men know the first and last name of everyone they've slept with

16 percent of men and 46 percent of women have faked an orgasm

To sum it up, your girlfriend might be trolling dating sites for a new partner, whilst still dating you. If she is, perhaps it's because you're not performing oral sex on her. And ladies, if your ex-boyfriend found out he has an STD, there's only a twenty-five percent chance he'll mention it. Though, in fairness, maybe he tried to look you up to give you the news, but realized he had totally forgotten your last name.
